Why do we LOVE to walk?

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

As you may have already guessed, we at MY URBAN TRAIL are obsessed by the outdoors...and for good reason.

Walking is low impact, requires minimal equipment, can be done at any time of day and can be performed at your own pace. You can get out and walk without worrying about the risks associated with some more vigorous forms of exercise. Walking is also a great form of physical activity for people who are overweight, elderly, or who haven’t exercised in a long time.

The 10,000 recommended steps a day by the government is not for good reason, there are so many amazing health benefits from making sure you are getting in those all important steps.

Physical health benefits

  • Walking is more than twice as effective as running at fighting off heart disease. An hour a day cuts the risk of a heart attack in your 50's in half.

  • Walking boosts circulation, triggers endorphins, decreases stress hormones and increases oxygen supply to the whole of your body- making you feel more alert.

  • Improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes.

  • Increased muscle strength and endurance whilst reduced body fat.

Mental health benefits

  • Meta-study concluded; "Walking has a statistically significant large effect on the symptoms of depression", making it as effective as meditation.

  • Increases your serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as a mood stabiliser, so having good levels of it means that you are...

- Happier - Reduced anxiety

- Calmer - Improved sleep quality

- More Focused

So what are you waiting for? Get your new outfit today and get exploring to start feeling a whole lot better.
